Our work life takes up most of our time, whether we work from a kitchen table or office. We work to support our families, to make the world better, and to find pleasure in life. Regardless of why we work, we have a busy schedule filled with deadlines, phone calls, meetings, and stress. After a long, busy day, it is necessary to unwind. Here are seven ideas to help you relax after a busy workday.Depositphotos 77297076 S

1- Create an After-Work Routine

We do best when we set routines for ourselves. Creating an after-work routine will help transition our brain out of work mode. The routine does not need to be complicated. It can be as simple as leaving the office, stopping for coffee, heading home to shower, and changing into comfortable clothes.

2- Exercise

As a child, did you love to shoot hoops or play tennis? Think about picking up your favorite sport once again. Physical activity is one way to de-stress after a long workday. No time or desire to join a sports team? No problem. There are plenty of things you can do on your own.

Stream a yoga class online. Take a walk around the block or hike in a local park. Exercise will not only help keep you in shape but also improve your mental health.

3- Hobbies

Hobbies are a way to lose ourselves and express ourselves in different ways. Maybe you have not thought about taking up a hobby in many years. It is never too late. Start simple by picking up a drawing pad and start doodling. Maybe you always wanted to learn to paint. It is never too late. Thanks to the internet, there are many classes you can enjoy from the comfort of your own home.

4- Get Into the Kitchen

Do you love to cook or want to learn to cook? Choose a new recipe and order the groceries. Spend time after work in the kitchen chopping and sauteing. Put on some of your favorite music and enjoy creating a new dish. Cooking invokes all your senses, and enjoying a delicious meal is soothing and satisfying.

5- Get Together With a Friend

It is not always possible to meet up with a friend after work for dinner or a drink; however, you can always phone a friend. Talking to a friend will help to uplift your spirits, or video chat while cooking dinner. You can even make the same recipe for a little more fun. Connecting with friends and family allows us to unwind and lift our spirits.

6- Sleep

Sometimes, the best way to unwind from a long day at work is to get some sleep. Take a warm bath, slip into a favorite pair of pajamas, turn down the thermostat, and climb into bed. Do not bring a phone or laptop to bed with you.

7- Make a List

There are times we can not get work out of our heads. If that is the case, make a do-to list of everything you need to do tomorrow. Once everything is out of your head, you can relax.
